Janet Hansen is an accomplished art director and multidisciplinary graphic designer. She is currently an Art Director at Alfred A. Knopf, where she has created hundreds of captivating book covers. Her role at Knopf and her diverse portfolio reflect her expertise in the field of graphic design, particularly in the literary domain.
Hansen’s journey into the world of book cover design began somewhat serendipitously when she met the creative director of Penguin at a party. After stunning the staff through her work on a few freelance projects, she was offered a position as a junior designer position at Penguin. She eventually became a senior designer at Riverhead books before moving over to Knopf.
Janet Hansen’s work has been widely recognized and featured by notable organizations and platforms such as AIGA, Artsy, It’s Nice That, The New York Times, and the Type Directors Club. She is also a professor of graphic design at her alma mater, the School of Visual Arts, in NYC.
Janet Hansen lives in Maplewood, New Jersey, with her husband, daughter, and two whippets.
