Derek George

Designer

Derek started as a book designer at the MIT Press in 2002 and worked at the University of Texas Press in Austin for eleven years. Now he runs a one-man studio and is available for freelance projects of all shapes and sizes. He’s designed books for clients such as The Contemporary Austin Museum, the Blanton Museum of Art, the LBJ Presidential Library, the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History, the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society, and the University of Chicago Press.

His work has been regularly featured in design competitions and publications such as the PRINT Magazine Regional Design Annual; the AIGA / Design Observer 50 Books / 50 Covers competition; the Association of University Presses Book, Jacket, and Journal Show; the Book Industry Guild of New York Book Show; the Texas Institute of Letters Fred Whitehead Award for Design of a Trade Book; the Bookbuilders of Boston New England Book Show; the AIGA Boston BoNE (Best of New England) Show; and Communication Arts Magazine’s “Great Ideas on a Limited Budget” feature.
