Amanda Shaffer is an award-winning illustrator, book cover designer, and art director based in Queens, NY. She’s the Associate Art Director at Open Road Integrated Media, currently overseeing all Sci Fi, Fantasy, and Horror. Her work has been consistently featured in some of the world’s most prestigious illustration annuals, including American Illustration, Communication Arts, and 3×3 Magazine.
Over her past decade working in publishing, she has designed and illustrated hundreds of book covers across all genres, for authors ranging from William Shatner to William Faulkner. She specializes in creating covers that stand out online, even as a thumbnail. On the side, she works on freelance projects for clients that have included various small publishers, self-published authors, and The Atlantic.
She graduated from Syracuse University summa cum laude and with Renée Crown University Honors with a BFA in Illustration and a concentration in Printmaking. In her spare time you can catch her watching horror movies, re-reading The Wheel of Time, going for a super slow run in the park, practicing Italian, or having a beer at a post-hardcore show.
